Project Delivery System Selection
Construction projects have traditionally been designed, bid, built and paid for within a framework of strictly defined roles, relationships and procedures. The traditional structure for construction contracting has proved effective overall, but perceived weaknesses or opportunities for improvement have led to consideration and use of alternative methods. These alternative methods include multi-prime contracting, construction management contracting and design-build contracting. While these new methods provide many advantages, they raise new questions about the altered roles, relationships and procedures involved in these options. Alternative contracting methods are reviewed in Chapter 2 of Common Sense Construction Law.
