G. SCOTT WALTERS is a partner in the Atlanta office of Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP. Scott received a B.C.E. (Bachelor of Civil Engineering) degree from The Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia , graduating in 1985. Prior to law school, Scott worked as a Project Engineer, Project Manager and Owner's Representative on numerous commercial construction and environmental remediation projects. Scott received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware , graduating in 1996. While at Widener Law School , Scott achieved Dean's Honors List and served on the Editorial Board and as External Managing Editor for the Widener Law Symposium Journal. Scott also served as a student attorney in the Widener Environmental Law Clinic and as a Summer Extern to the Hon. Maurice A. Hartnett, Jr., Justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware.
In his legal career, Scott has represented contractors, subcontractors, owners and developers in a variety of cases, including contracting claims and disputes involving differing site conditions, constructive changes, delays, defective plans and specifications and construction defects. Scott also has extensive experience in drafting complex construction documents for heavy industrial, general commercial and environmental remediation projects throughout the country. Scott has reported decisions in Chambers of Georgia, Inc. v. Dep't of Natural Resources, 232 Ga.App. 632, 502 S.E.2d 553 (1998) and Beugnot v. Coweta County , 231 Ga.App. 715, 500 S.E.2d 28 (1998). After joining Smith, Currie & Hancock in 2005, Scott's practice continues to focus on construction contracting and environmental issues and dispute resolution.
Scott is a member of the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry; the ABA Section on Environment, Energy and Natural Resources; the Georgia Bar 's Environmental Law Section; and is a member of the Air & Waste Management Association-Georgia Chapter. He has also taught classes on Safety Conscious Work Environment Training and lectured at seminars on construction contracting issues.
Scott and his wife, Faith, have been married since 1985. They have three children: Zach, Taylor and Abbie. Scott is an avid runner and is active in local community, civic and church organizations, and is an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A.
