Helen H. PopeAssociate

HELEN H. POPE is an associate in the Atlanta office of the law firm of Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP.  Helen joined Smith, Currie & Hancock in 2005 upon her graduation from Tulane Law School , cum laude.  Helen earned an Environmental Law Certificate at Tulane and worked as a student attorney in the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, where she specialized in land-use law.  As a student attorney, Helen orally argued against a motion to dismiss her clinic case and then conducted a bench trial of the case in the 40th Judicial District, St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana .  Helen completed the Tulane Law School pro bono requirement by volunteering at the Orleans Parish Indigent Defender program.  She was elected from first year on to represent her class in the Student Bar Association and served as class treasurer her third year.  Helen belonged to the Tulane Inn of Court from 2002-2005.  She is a member of the legal honorary fraternity Phi Delta Phi.

Helen holds a Master of Science degree in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was a teaching assistant.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography (with a concentration in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems / GIS) from the University of South Carolina .  Before entering law school, Helen worked creating coastal zone maps at NOAA's Coastal Services Center in Charleston, South Carolina .  During college, Helen worked as a page for three terms of the South Carolina State Senate and worked as a summer intern in the Washington office of Congressman John Spratt, of the 5th District of South Carolina.

Helen was born in Lexington, Virginia, and was raised primarily in Newberry and Columbia, South Carolina.
