Robert J. GreenePartner

ROBERT J. GREENE, JR. is a partner in the Charlotte office of Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP.  He received his B.A. degree cum laude and J.D. degree from the University of Utah .  He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971.  While in the Army he attended Combat Engineer Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate.  Mr. Greene completed his military service in the Republic of South Viet Nam as a 1st Lieutenant where he served as a platoon leader in the 101st Airborne Division.  After military service he returned to Utah and completed his undergraduate degree.  Before commencing his legal education at the University of Utah Mr. Greene was employed by the Salt Lake City Police Department and worked in various divisions including an assignment as undercover narcotics officer.

Mr. Greene has practiced law in North Carolina since 1979.  During that time he has represented owners, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and sureties on issues involving bid and award protests, and performance problems related to changes, changed conditions, delays, suspensions of work and termination of contracts.  The venues for these matters have been in the private, public and federal sectors.

He is a member of the American Bar Association Litigation Section and the Construction Forum.  He is a member of the Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association and has successfully litigated and arbitrated construction related cases across North Carolina and several states in the Southeast.

He actively participates in educational efforts for members of the construction industry and speaks at seminars, writes articles on current legal issues affecting the construction industry for publication in trade journals and seminar manuals, has served on the National Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association, is a Certified Mediator for North Carolina Superior Court cases, and is a founding principal of The Arbitration Group, an independent private dispute resolution organization headquartered in Charlotte.

He is married and has four children.  He is a private pilot with an instrument rating and is fluent in German.
